Machine Plates Online has been in business for more than 30 years providing custom printed and engraved plates to label and identify machines, control panels, lockers, vehicles and more. They are locally based in Hartland, WI, but sell worldwide. Wanting to stay competitive online with other label and plate engravers, they came to our Wisconsin web design and development agency looking for a new updated site.

One of the challenges we faced with Machine Plates Online was organizing the information. Because every order they have is custom and they offer such a wide variety of products, there were several different ways we could have structured the navigation. In the end we choose a custom WordPress web design for them and structured the navigation by application and by material because it offered the best user experience. We also added a lightbox feature to the various product pages to display multiple examples of each product type and really showcase the company’s capabilities.

Along with a new updated look for the site, it was important that the WP website also be search engine optimized. Because of their industrial niche, extra care needed to be given to the keyword research to eliminate terms that may be more popular, don’t generate quality leads. This led to a more long-tail keyword optimization strategy which should result in a higher conversion rate for the new website.
