Website & Digital Archive Design for Hawks Inn
The Hawks Inn is an early stagecoach stop and non-profit historical society in Delafield, WI. Their mission is to teach and preserve the local history of the Delafield area and began developing a collection of photographs, images, newspaper clippings, diaries, journals, maps and other original documents from the area’s past. They were looking for a way to digitalize these materials so they could easily be enjoyed by anyone.
They originally hired us to create a digital archive for them, keeping their existing website as is. We created a custom template for their archive site to match their existing branding so that it would feel like an extension of the current site. We developed the archive site using WordPress and entered each of the archived items as its own post. The site opens right onto the main digital archive with a few additional marketing pages to support the archive available from the top navigation.
They were so pleased with the new look and function of the archive, that shortly after it was completed, they hired us to redo their main website. We carried over the updated look of the archive to the main site, giving it a fresh, clean look and feel with a lot more pictures. We also increased the function, restructuring some of the pages so they were easier to read, updating their events calendar plugin so it was easier to use and seamless worked in donation and volunteer forms so they can further their mission.
